Wired CCTV systems, typically recording to a local NVR/DVR, are hard to beat for reliability and 24/7 recording. Because they don’t depend on Wi-Fi for the camera link, they’re well suited to continuous coverage of key areas and to larger, multi-camera installations.
The trade-off is installation: wired systems need cabling run and terminated properly, which is where professional installation pays off.
Smart / wireless cameras: flexibility
Standalone smart cameras are quicker to place where cabling is impractical and often lean on cloud storage and app-based alerts. They’re great for filling gaps, renters, or spots that are hard to wire.
The considerations are network dependence, ongoing storage costs, and making sure alerts are tuned so you get useful notifications rather than constant noise.
